This artwork intends to remember the defunct websites of the early internet and the digital debris that these now abandoned or deleted websites have left behind. Ghost towns form when inhabitants leave for towns and cities with more opportunities, much like internet users migrating to new and 'improved' websites. While it is impossible to provide a complete archive of defunct websites, it is important to recognise their contribution to early internet users and the legacy they left behind. Websites such as Geocities and MySpace not only helped to store memories, but also to create them, and they have now become digital memories themselves. While many websites have actively been preserved, I wanted to create a memorial for the ones that were not, for the digital ghosts that inhabit these digital spaces and the digital ephemera that remains.
